Extended Legal Assistance is available to eligible applicants with certain social housing disputes.

Extended Legal Assistance is available

  • to negotiate:
    • to resolve disputes about social housing eligibility
    • to retain an applicant’s social housing tenancy
    • for modifications or repairs to be conducted to make the property safe or fit for habitation, including any related rent abatement or reduction
    • the resolution of disputes arising from the applicant’s experience of domestic or family violence or elder abuse
  • to seek internal review of a decision of Housing NSW or a Social Housing Provider
  • to appeal to the Housing Appeals Committee
  • to complain to the NSW Ombudsman or Registrar of Community Housing.

Note: Representation at the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal is covered under grants of aid.

Extended Legal Assistance is available to eligible applicants who are tenants with certain private tenancy disputes.

Extended Legal Assistance is available to negotiate:

  • to retain an applicant’s tenancy
  • for repairs to be conducted to make the property safe or fit for habitation, including any related rent abatement or reduction
  • the resolution of disputes arising from the applicant’s experience of domestic and family violence or elder abuse.

Extended Legal Assistance is available to eligible applicants who are residents of boarding houses and residential parks with certain disputes.

Extended Legal Assistance is available to negotiate to:

  • retain the right to occupancy in a boarding house or enforce the Boarding House occupancy principles
  • retain a resident’s right to reside in a residential park, or for repairs to be conducted to make a site or residential park safe including related abatement or reduction.
