We run free workshops, presentations, webinars and information stalls. Click on the button below to make a request for your community group, school or workplace.


About our workshops

Law Check-Up is a tool for community and health workers to identify if their client has a legal problem and where to refer them for help. 

Legal Aid NSW lawyers can run a free training session about how to use the Law Check-Up tool to identify legal problems with your clients and understand the types of issues that are legal problems.

You can request a training session for your organisation or interagency meeting by completing our online Request a workshop form.

You can download a copy of the Law Check-Up form.

You can also download a State-wide Services Referral List. This list will help with referrals. You can add your local service contacts to this list. 

We have additional Law-Checks for special groups:

This workshop is for refugees, asylum seekers and newly arrived migrants. It is an introduction to the Australian legal system. It covers some of the main laws in everyday life.

Participants will learn:

  • How laws are made
  • Who is who in the system - police, lawyers, and judges
  • How to identify legal problems
  • Where to get help.

Workers in organisations who provide services to refugees, asylum seekers and newly arrived migrants can request a free workshop using the Request a workshop form.

 

The workshop is for people who are recent arrivals to Australia and people from culturally diverse communities who are interested in learning about their rights at work. This workshop covers many legal issues that new arrivals may face at work. Participants will learn:

  • Some basic workplace rights
  • How to identify common legal problems at work
  • Where to get help

Pianoforte is a presentation for older people and their families and carers. It is a screening of a play that explores issues older people might face when planning for the future. It covers wills, power of attorney and elder abuse.

Pianoforte was written and produced by the Suncoast Community Legal Centre and funded by Legal Aid Queensland Community Collaboration Fund.

We provide free specialised legal education sessions for young people, teachers and community workers that promote a better understanding of the law and how it can affect young people. For a list of workshops and more information, visit Schools & young people.

Legal Aid NSW has developed a set of training materials for domestic and family violence specialist workers on the new coercive control offence.

eLearning course - Introduction to coercive control

This is an eLearning course on the fundamentals of coercive control and the new legislation. It has been developed for lawyers and domestic and family violence specialist workers. You may find some parts of the course more relevant to your work than others, and you can complete whichever parts of the course you choose.

Webinar - Coercive control: what do domestic and family violence specialist workers need to know?

On 14 June 2024, Legal Aid NSW hosted a webinar featuring the following speakers:

  • Dr Jane Wangmann, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law at the University of Technology Sydney
  • Bev Lazarou, Senior Project Officer, Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Program (WDVCAP)
  • Rachael Dobson, Senior Solicitor, Legal Aid NSW Domestic Violence Unit
