The CEO of Legal Aid NSW has approved a pilot that removes the means test in family law Extended Legal Assistance (ELA) services for clients of the Family Law Service for Aboriginal Communities (FamAC).
The introduction of triage and priority client guidelines mean that the current client cohort eligible for an ELA service is different to 2017 when the policies were introduced.
The removal of the means test in family law ELA services will be piloted in FamAC to assess the impact on service delivery and client outcomes.
FamAC clients are now eligible for the Family Law - clients with complex needs ELA , which is not means tested. The ELA service is only available to clients of the in-house practice.
The pilot commences on 1 August 2024 and will conclude on 31 July 2025.
