Who is a veteran?

The term 'veteran' has a particular meaning under the veterans' entitlements legislation.

In general, a veteran is anyone who has ever served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) including those who are still serving.

Making a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs

If you were injured as a result of your service, you may be able to apply for compensation depending on the type of injury or impairment.

Advocates for veterans

If you are a veteran, you can get help from an advocate. 

The Legal Aid NSW Veterans' Advocacy Service can help veterans with a range of legal issues including entitlements with the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
