People considering ending their relationships and separated parents are among those who will benefit from a significant boost to free family law services in Griffith in 2022.
Legal Aid NSW has partnered with Griffith’s David Davidge Lawyers and with Wagga Wagga-based Friedlieb Fox McLeod to provide the free twice-monthly legal clinic, which launches on 24 January, 2022.
“We know the last two years have been extremely challenging for many families, and that many women have experienced either the onset or escalation of domestic violence in this time,” Legal Aid NSW Regional Outreach Clinic Program Manager Kate Halliday said.
“The earlier you ask for help, the more options you may have.
“If you are considering separating from your partner, spending half an hour speaking with an experienced family lawyer can make a big difference in helping you navigate what comes next.
“This is especially true if you are worried about your safety. We can connect you to other services and help you make a plan to leave your relationship safely.
“Our free legal clinic is also here for people who have already separated. You might have a question about dividing your property or how to deal with debts from the relationship. Or you might have previously come to an agreement with your former partner about where your children should live or how often they get to see you, and now your partner isn’t sticking to the plan.
“We can help you understand your rights and your options. And remember, legal advice is always confidential.”
Legal advice clinics are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Appointments are currently by telephone only – call Legal Aid NSW’s Wagga Wagga office on (02) 69216 588 to secure your place.
