Legal Aid NSW Client Portal

The Client Portal is a secure, digital one-stop-shop where you can access your case information online. In the portal, you can:

  • View information about your cases
  • See your upcoming appointments and court dates
  • Find out who your lawyer is
  • Access contact details of your lawyer
  • View and update your personal details
  • Access helpful links and resources.

Am I eligible to use the portal?

Access to the Client Portal is limited and only issued by Legal Aid NSW.

If you have a grant of aid or get ongoing legal help from a lawyer who works at Legal Aid NSW, we will send you an SMS or email to register for the Client Portal. Ongoing legal help includes representing you at court, helping you with a mediation, or drafting letters.

If you get help from a private lawyer paid by Legal Aid NSW, the Client Portal is not currently available.

If you came to see us for advice only, you won’t get an invitation to use the portal.

If you are under 18 or are in custody, access to the Client Portal is not available.

Unsure you are eligible? Speak to your lawyer or contact us via web chat between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

Using the portal

Currently, you can’t send documents through the portal.

No. You will need to contact your local office to leave a message for your lawyer. To find contact details for your local office in the portal, go to Cases, select your case card and look under the ‘My lawyer’ heading.

Not all services provided by Legal Aid NSW appear in the Client Portal. Generally, if you have a grant of aid or an ongoing legal problem, you should see your case in the portal. The following will not appear in the portal:

  • One-off advice sessions
  • Cases that a private lawyer paid by Legal Aid NSW is helping you with

A case where you see a Legal Aid NSW duty lawyer at the local court may not appear in the portal.

For more information, contact us via web chat between 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).

A case where you see a Legal Aid NSW duty lawyer at the local court may not appear in the portal. Check the Court Listing for your upcoming court dates.

Cases that a private lawyer paid by Legal Aid NSW is helping you with are not available in the portal. Contact your private lawyer for your upcoming court dates and appointments.

Check if your case has been moved to the ‘Past’ tab. If so, your case may have been transferred to a private lawyer who is paid by Legal Aid NSW to help you. Currently, the Client Portal does not show or update cases transferred to private lawyers.

Sometimes it takes a while to allocate a lawyer to your case. If you can’t see your lawyer’s name and you have questions, you can ask your local office.

To find contact details for your local office in the portal, go to Cases, select your case card and look under the ‘My lawyer’ heading.

To close your account, log into the portal, go to ‘My account’ and select ‘Delete my account’. Once your account is deleted, you can no longer access the Client Portal. To access the portal again, you need to create a new account and complete the registration process again.

Currently, this is not available.

Yes, the Client Portal is compatible with screen readers and voice overs. There is currently an issue when signing up to the portal using screen readers on iOS devices (iPhones/iPads). While we work on this issue, you can sign up using a desktop or laptop device.

Once you have created your account, you can use your phone to login and use the portal as normal with your screen reader.
